No More Peyton Manning?

No More Peyton Manning?

Recent news about the whole Peyton Manning situation has reported that the Indianapolis Colts are moving on without him. Yep, no more Manning for the Colts. It’s been a tearful ordeal, but one that was inevitable. Apparently it wasn’t about the 90 million dollar contract with a 28 million bonus on top. The Colts owner, Jim Irsay, said that the money wasn’t a factor in them letting Manning go; it was because Manning had sat out all of last season from his third neck surgery in 19 months. That’s understandable, without him the Colts were the NFL worst last season going 2-14; it’s hard to take another chance like that, especially when that was his third surgery. Peyton is at the age of 35, which some view as a little heightened in age for the NFL. Thankfully, it was a gracious parting, there were no hard feelings; Peyton understood why, and really took it like a champ. It was almost even a sentimental moment; Peyton saying that inside he is always going to be a Colt no matter where he ends up going, with Jim Irsay saying that the number 18 jersey will never be worn on the Colts’ field. Peyton was signed by the Colts in 1998 and has been there ever since, that’s 14 years of being with one team. Manning has taken the Colts to the Superbowl only twice and has won the game once. He’s been a great quarterback, arguably the best, and I’m sure that it was a very difficult choice they made to let him go.

As for where Peyton will go, no one really knows. Not even Peyton himself. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to retire, he loves playing quarterback. He’s a coveted free agent among NFL teams, so I’m sure that he isn’t going to have any trouble finding teams that want him. There has been some speculation that the Arizona Cardinals are interested in signing Peyton Manning, but no one knows for sure where Peyton will end up.

Jeremy Lin-sanity

Jeremy Lin-sanity

No doubt that this kid, Jeremy Lin, is the source for a lot of hype for the New York Knicks these days.  In case you don’t know who or what I am talking about, Jeremy Lin is the New York Knicks rookie point guard; and despite his inexperience, he has already made quite a name for himself. Because of his performance in past games, he has generated a buzz that coined the phrase “Linsanity”. This little guy sure has pulled off quite a few unlikely moves.  I, personally, haven’t really bought into the hype that this little guy has generated.  Yes, I’ll admit that he has done some impressive moves; but he honestly looks like a high school player out there, and somehow those moves are working out for him! The kid could be blind-folded, with five 7-foot people guarding him, standing directly under the hoop, throw the ball up and by some divine power the ball will make it in the basket. He puts up the wildest shots and they somehow manage to go in. At this point, it looks like he’s surviving on lucky shots. Here are his top ten plays so far:

The Knicks last game was against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which they won with a rather high score of 120, to the Cavaliers 103. Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin, who had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists, and 1 steal, both did very well. Carmelo scored 22 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists. The Cavaliers had a couple of high scorers, but who knows any of their players now that LeBron doesn’t play for them?

I think people are making a little too much out of how well Jeremy Lin has been doing, there are reports that there is a biography in the making. Good heavens, the kid is 23 years old! How long will the book be? 10 Pages? I’m anxious to see how will this little guy is going to perform in the future, if he can keep up with the hype and live up to people’s expectations.
